Course Overview

Periodontal Surgical Skills Workshop

Treating, Managing and Beating Up On Periodontal Disease

Price: $1095.00 full tuition for 2-day workshop (14 CE hours)

Time: 8:00AM - 4:00PM each day (Lunch is provided)

This hands-on course will clarify diagnosis and treatment planning to help general practitioners feel comfortable with different kinds of treatments, and the potential for success of these approaches, whether you choose to do some of it or refer it out. It will focus on also being able to diagnose contributory factors and offer suggestions for ongoing maintenance care and patient care at home.

This participatory course is designed to enhance or develop skills in basic periodontal flap surgery, and at the same time show the potential for a non-surgical, and / or minimally invasive, approach. Besides surgical exercises for flap and suturing there are exercises on bone contouring and bone grafting.

The Perio Institute has been teaching mild to moderate periodontal surgical skills to the general practicing dentist for over thirty years. Our Periodontal Surgical Skills Workshop is now fully redesigned and updated.

You will learn an Evidenced Based method for Minimally Invasive Management of Moderate to Advanced Periodontal Infection to target the bacteria and NOT the pocket. Understand why targeting pockets may be the WRONG approach.

A key factor is Ongoing Maintenance, and we will emphasize methods that patients can manage without being too complicated so compliance at home might be improved.

The Surgical Procedures will be practiced on fresh frozen pig jaws, and anatomically correct models. All are intended to provide a clear understanding of each procedure. Topics to be covered include diagnosis, minimally invasive anti-microbial methods, instrumentation, basic flaps, palatal flaps, osseous concepts for both osseous reduction procedures and basic bone grafting for three wall defects, role of trauma from the occlusion, and predictable methods for patient motivation that will include a key cornerstone for long term successful maintenance care. All instruments you will need for this Periodontal Surgical Skills Workshop will be furnished. A comprehensive workbook is provided and two surgical videos are shown.

If your goal is to perform some of your own periodontal surgery for the management of Infective Periodontal Disease, then this is a course that you might consider! It will increase your diagnostic skills to help you identify more factors whether you treat them yourself or refer more thoroughly. There is no better way to enhance the care you can provide your patients than to experience these intensive 2 days and offer patients a chance for long term management of the disease.
